The Defense Sector comprises McAlester's single largest target industry. Home to the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant and Choctaw Defense, McAlester provides vital manufacturing support to the U.S. military.

Major defense contractors, such as Raytheon, Textron, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, and Boeing, rely on McAlester for our defense expertise and price-competitive capabilities.


The Aerospace sector has extensive history in McAlester. Multinational organizations like Rockwell International and Boeing helped shape our community's aerospace identify by establishing and operating local facilities.

Currently, Wichita-based Spirit Aerosystems, the world's largest first-tier aerostructures manufacturer, operates one of its eleven worldwide facilities in the community.


McAlester is a superb transportation hub with direct access to several key delivery channels, including interstates, two mainline railroads, international airports, and an inland port.

Several companies take advantage of that superior connectivity and operate central warehousing and distribution centers in McAlester, including two major employers, Komar & Sons and National Oilwell Varco.


Oklahoma contains an abundance of oil and natural gas reserves, creating a vast market for resource extraction, industrial production, and the support services that compliment it.

Companies such as Baker Hughes, National Oilwell Varco, and Tucker Energy operate within the McAlester area and maintain a business footprint to support and enhance the state's economic energy sector.
