In McAlester, you can enjoy the amenities of a large community, while also enjoying
the quality of life offered by most rural communities.

McAlester offers numerous recreational opportunities including Lake Eufaula, just 15 minutes from north of the community. Lake Eufaula has the largest shoreline of any lake in the state. In addition, Robbers Cave State Park is just 20 minutes away in Latimer County and Sardis Lake is just 40 minutes away in Pushmataha County.

McAlester also has three 18-hole golf courses in the area, all with breathtaking scenery including two in the community and one on Lake Eufaula. If you like the outdoors, you won't have to look far for entertainment.

However, the community offers numerous other opportunities including a five-screen
movie theater, numerous retail outlets, museums, and restaurants famous statewide. The community also has construed an 80,000 square foot exposition center which hosts numerous activities including concerts, trade shows and conventions.

When it comes to education, McAlester has no equal in Southeastern Oklahoma. McAlester Public Schools has been recognized numerous times over the past 10 years for its quality educational services. In March 2003, voters in the community approved a new sales tax dedicated to the construction of a technology wing of McAlester High School featuring state-of-the-art science, math, computer and technology labs.

The community also has a highly technical vocational education center where industries can train their employees, the community constructed a higher education facility that provides two-year and four-year degree programs.

McAlester serves as the medical center for Southeast Oklahoma with a 200-bed community owned hospital and doctor's clinic owned by the Warren Clinic Medical Group from Tulsa.
